About Wingerworth Fencing Club

April 2000 The Club was Started in by Jonathon Brown with a beginners course numbering six they were Tony Klenczar, Paul Senior, Lynn Senior, Sean Gannon, Anita Fairley and ...... .Club nights were held at The Parish Hall on Longedge Lane Wingerworth

June 2000 The club moved to The Parish Rooms, New Road, wingerworth.

The club did not initially attract any new members and after six months consisted of Jonathon, Tony, Paul and Lynn.

Towards the end of 2000 some new members took up the sport, the most significant being Malcolm Tooley. Malcolm had not fenced for about 14 years when he moved into the area, but had been a qualified coach in the North East all those years ago.

Jonathon left the club in 2000 leaving Tony Klenczar, Paul and Lynn Senior to run the club. Malcolm tooley was immediateley appointed coach.

The Club became a non profit making organisation and every penny that was paid into the club was invested in new kit.

Committee Members Elected 2001 were Chairman - Tony Klenczar Treasurer - Lynn Senior and Paul Senior secratary.

May 2001 Wingerworth Junior Fencing Club formed

November 2001 Electric fencing introduced into the club

In 2002 Malcolm Tooley and Dave Nash were elected to the existing committee.

July 2002 £4856 grant recieved from "Awards for All"

December 2002 Mixed Foil Champion Malcolm Tooley

April 2003 The club moved to Sharley Park leisure centre.

June 2003 Mixed epee champion Ian Sleeman

June 2003 Mixed sabre champion Ev Van Gemeren

December 2003 Ladies foil champion Hannah Lawrence

January 2004 Tony Klenczar wins East Midlands Epee Championship.

March 2004 Hannah Lawrence becomes first Wingerworth Fencer to win an Open at Ashton.

June 2004 Mixed epee champion Chris Morgan

June 2004 Mixed sabre champion Ev Van Gemeren

December 2004 Mens Foil champion Nigel Lievesley

December 2004 ladies Foil Champion Hannah Lawrence

December 2006 Malcolm Tooley left the club moving back to the North East.

January 2007 Hannah Lawrence selected for Great Britain junior squad

January 2007 Tony Klenczar and Hannah Lawrence win the East Midlands men's and women's Epee Championship

March 2007 Hannah Lawrence wins Nottingham Open Womens Epee

March 2007 Helen Solly wins East Midland Region U-18 Foil

April 2007 Committee elected; Chairman Tony Klenczar, Secretary Alice Lawrence, Treasurer Andy Moroz, Coaching Ev Van Gemeren, Armoury Paul Williams and Kids Club Ian Drew.

June 2007 Hannah Lawrence wins Wrexham Open Womens Epee.

July 2007 Andy Moroz Mixed Epee Champion.

July 2007 Alex Marsh Junior Foil Champion.

July 2007 Hannah Lawrence third place Senior British Championships Womens Epee.

July 2007 Andy Moroz wins Club Epee league (Spring.

September 2007 Helen Solly selected for Great Britain Cadet squad (foil) for Bratislava.

September 2007 Hannah Lawrence selected for Great Britain Junior squad (epee)for Bratislava and Portugal. First reserve for European Championships.

November 2007 Helen Solly Leon Paul U-17 Junior Series Champion.

January 2008 Helen Solly East Midlands Ladies Foil Champion.

January 2008 Hannah Lawrence East Midlands Ladies Epee Champion.

March 2008 Hannah Lawrence wins Nottingham Open.

March 2008 It was decided that due to the club being predominately Epee, the Mixed Sabre and Men's and Womens Foil competition's, would be scrapped and the trophies would become, Division One Epee, Division Two Epee and there will be a seperate womens Epee competition.
