Results Round Up

Eight fencers from Wingerworth have entered eight national competitions over the last month; Hannah Lawrence is still leading the way she has had a 1st at Hampton on the British selection circuit, this was followed by an excellent 3rd at Bristol. This result moved Hannah up to nuber 6 in the national rankings, Hannah is one more big victory away from the number 1 spot. Staying with womens epee Alice Lawrence has been following in her daughters footsteps with three good results; 7th at Shropshire, 8th at Ashton and 12th at Leicester.
Men's epee has seen improved results, Tom Chrisp had a good 55th at Essex, one of the toughest comps of the season. At Shropshire Max Telfer finished 23rd with Paul Williams 29th. Joe Littler has had two good results finishing 10th at the Manchester Cadet Tournament and 32nd at the British cadet championships. At Ashton six epeeists competed Granville Ward lead the way with a good 5th, closely followed by alistair Bullward in 6th, Max Telfer 16th, Tom Chrisp 18th, Andy Rushton 25th and Paul Williams 29th. Last weekend at Liecester another hard competitionTom Chrisp finished 45th, Max Telfer 65th and Paul Williams 74th. The number of people competing is encouraging as we know that competing raises the standard of fencers and ultimately the club. It would be an achievement to get somebody into the top 75 at least, at Men's Epee by the end of this season. We have five fencers hovering around the 100 mark. To get into the top 75 will take a step up in performance, it is possible we have had two people there before, this should be the aim of Wingerworth men's epeeist's this year. Just keep in mind that ten years ago we didn't exist, eight years ago we had one epeeist and one ranked fencer, things have changed alot now. You just have to make it happen!! Any takers?
